Quickfire Q&A with Khan

Khan is one of the most interesting artists around at the moment, in my opinion, and he is also a super nice guy. He is a tattooist from South Korea who gave up his own shop to hit the road, doing guest spots and working conventions around the world. He specialises in neo-fantasy and realism, and recently he has been doing a fair bit of ‘Day of the Dead’ style portraits.

I saw him working at the London Tattoo Convention so I thought it might be nice to catch up with him for a little chat to ask him what for him what he enjoyed most about the weekend. Check some of his most recent work below, including some pieces he worked on at the London show. You can see more of his tattoos and book an appointment through this link.

How was the London Convention for you?

It was an awesome time as always! Big energy from many great artists over the world, many tattooed people and tattoo fans. This time was my third time working at the London Convention. I had a great time with so many good people at there. Yes, it is the best tattoo show in the world! I can’t wait [until] September 2013!

What was the highlight of the weekend for you?

I talked with my idol Tin-Tin from France at the show, which was really great, as well as Bob Tyrrell, Andy Engel, many other great artists, and my all great friends.

What pieces were you working on?

A realistic woman in colour on an arm on Friday (which I couldn’t finish), a colour portrait on an arm, and a Day of the Dead face on a hand in colour on for Saturday. I also did a Day of the Dead face in colour on a back ([which I] couldn’t finish) on Sunday.

Where are you working next? Do you have other conventions coming up?

Yes, I will work at the Brussels convention this November, the Milan Convention in February, Urban Ink Fest in Chent, Belgium in March, and Mondial Du Tatouage in Paris, also in March.

I will also start guest spots at All Style Tattoo in Berlin from [the] 2nd [of] November, and at Paul & Friendz Tattoo in Brussels from 19 November and in Kizingen, Germany at Andy’s Tattoo from [the] 30th [of] November.

My name is Hannah Smith and I am a regular contributor to Tattoo Revolution Magazine, and now I blog for Tattoosday UK, as long as you dear readers don’t run me out of town! I am on the hunt for ideas for future blog posts so please send me your pics, news, views, whatever to hannahfranink@gmail.com or twitter.com/ hannah_fran_ink
