Once you’re aware of how to properly look after your skin, the first thing you notice is how much people neglect it. All the time I see people with dry, flaky skin or oily faces, and it amazes me how much people assume that picking up any rubbish in Boots will make their skin look amazing. When you’re tattooed, looking after your skin becomes even more important, which is why I’ve been amazed lately at how many people I’ve noticed don’t take care of their skin. I think many people already know this, but nevertheless here are a couple of reminders for you!
I think this is the one thing that almost no one does. Your tattoos are visible because they’re behind a translucent layer of skin called the epidermis. If you don’t look after this layer, you will have dead skin cells that look really grey and make your tattoos look faded. The easiest way to help take those dead layers away is to exfoliate when you’re in the bath! You can use something like an exfoliating brush- they’re super cheap and easy to use.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to moisturise! I know loads of people think that only old ladies should use it, but everyone should really. You don’t need anything fancy, just whatever will work for you. It’s important that your skin isn’t losing moisture all the time, because that will make your tattoos look really dry and old. This is another time where they might look faded too, where all the dry cells in the epidermis are showing over the top of them. There are products out there that are designed specifically for tattoos, but it all depends on what works for you, really.

3. Sun screen!
I won’t go too far with this one, because I think that it’s already drummed into your head when you get tattooed, but it is really important. The sun will fade your tattoos and make them look rubbish. A good SPF lotion will do wonders, trust me. Ideally, you need something that blocks both UVA and UVB rays, and is SPF 30 or higher. Again, you can get products that are made for tattoos. If anyone has tried these, I’d love to hear your comments below, since I’ve never had the opportunity to try them. Any sun screen will work, though.
These are three really simple things which you can do which will help keep your tattoos looking great. It takes a minute out of your day to do all this, so it’s worth it. If anyone has anything they’d like to add to this, please feel free to comment below!
